Downs with Love tells the story of Beth, a young girl who has Down’s Syndrome. She lives a very independent life, has her routines and lives simply but happily. She is helped by a new support worker, Tracy. She and Beth soon strike up a friendship. On a Friday night, Beth always goes to the pub to watch Mark, a local singer. Beth loves Mark but the problem is - Mark loves Tracy who loves both of them. Complex and challenging issues arise for all.
Staring Abigail Brydon, the winner of Creative Achievement in the national Learning Disability Awards, the play has been written around the performers using personal experience to inform the production.
Cutting Edge Theatre exists “to make a difference in people’s lives where the process is as important as the end product”. Abi is one of the students at INSPIRE, a project that sees practitioners working with young people who have additional support needs, helping them to discover their talents, learn new skills and gain confidence.
